Birth Control ... Pope John Paul II has made it clear that even
“natural” methods of birth control are unacceptable
to the church if they are used for “selfish ends.” Addressing
a Rome conference on the Billing method of family planning, the
Pope said all methods were forbidden if couples were “closed
to the transmission of life.” (The Freethinker, Jan. 1991).
Meanwhile, the Roman Catholic Church benefited financially from
the sale of the pill; the Vatican Bank has held the majority of
shares in the Roman-based pharmaceutical firm Sorono which produces
birth control pills. (The Human Quest. Jan-Feb 1991)
