International Day to End Impunity

November 23, 2013

The International Day to End Impunity is a day dedicated to a call to action to demand justice for those who have been targeted for exercising their right to freedom of expression, and to shed light on the issue of impunity.

Why was 23 November chosen as the International Day to End Impunity?
This day marks the anniversary of the 2009 Maguindanao, Ampatuan massacre, when 58 people - including 32 journalists and media workers - were murdered in the Philippines. To date, none of the perpetrators have been brought to justice.

How can I get involved?
There are numerous ways to participate in the campaign. Here are just a few:
23 Actions in 23 Days: Each day, from 1 to 23 November, a new digital call to action will be revealed Actions include sending a letter, tweeting at the authorities, sharing infographics and more. Visit the website every day during the campaign, take action and share with your friends.
