Kensington Market Historical Society inaugural event

March 20, 2013

Kensington Market Historical Society will present two distinguished speakers, each the author of an iconic book on the region: Jean Cochrane (Kensington, Boston Mills Press, 2000), and Rosemary Donegan (Spadina Avenue, Douglas & McIntyre, 1985.)
Jean Cochrane will present "Kensington Market: An Evolving Haven", an illustrated overview of the Kensington Market area through its many changes.
Rosemary Donegan will speak on "Spadina Avenue: The Gateway to Kensington Market." In this illustrated talk, Donegan will focus on the stretch of Spadina Avenue running from College Street south to Dundas Street - a bustling hive of commerce and entertainment that has for the
past century served as a kind of Main Street for the inhabitants of the Kensington area.
"We felt it important that our first public foray take a broad view of the issues we plan to explore in our future activities", says Dennis Reid, President of the Society, "laying a solid foundation for our
subsequent investigations of the history of Kensington Market."
