rare: Winter Solstice Hike
December 21, 2011
The Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year. It is a time of transition, of looking back at the old year and looking forward to the new. Many cultures around the world have celebrated the winter solstice for hundreds, even thousands of years as they watched the days grow shorter and wait patiently for the sun to return. In their own ways, Native Canadians honor the cycle of life, alongside endings and new beginnings as their ancestors did before them. Join our Manager of Education, Matt Lawson and our Land Management Coordinator, Laura Robson for an evening of folklore and natural history mixed. After exploring local First Nations tradition, we will call for owls that use the night for their very survival. Hot Apple Cider will be provided on the trail, please dress warmly as there will be several stops along the way. Cost: $8 ($3 with rare Discount Card) Register by Monday, December 19, 2011.
