2011 IRE Conference
June 09, 2011 to June 12, 2011
You won't want to miss IRE's annual conference in Orlando.
You'll learn how journalists uncovered the biggest stories of the year and return with the skills, tips and knowledge to do those stories yourself.
Hear from the reporters who broke Pulitzer and IRE Award winning stories on outrageous salaries for public officials in Bell County, Calif.; the secrets of the insurance industry; fatal medical errors from common procedures; caregivers who place society's most vulnerable citizens in grave danger; questionable Wall Street practices that led to the economic meltdown; the real story behind the Gulf oil spill; tracking the weapons responsible for many of the nation's homicides; brazen charity schemes that raise millions of dollars; and much, much more.
Showcase panels will include a look at the changing landscape of leaked documents in the wake of Wikileaks, with a panel including New York Times executive editor Bill Keller; and a session on when does the risk outweigh the need to get the story, with a panel including David Rohde, who was held captive for seven months by the Taliban. The keynote address will be given by Jeff Fager, chairman of CBS News and executive producer of "60 Minutes."
We'll offer a series of "On the Beat" panels to help you cover specific topics, and we're offering a full-day series of panels for those involved with nonprofit investigative centers.
