Sounds of the Revolution
May 15, 2011
A fundraising event that brings together authors, artists, and performers to celebrate the strength and dignity of people fighting for their political and human rights in the Arabic-speaking world.
The Canadian Palestinian Educational Exchange (CEPAL) is a registered charity that believes education is a fundamental right. Since 1996, CEPAL has worked in partnership with local Palestinian NGOs in refugee camps in Lebanon to increase refugees’ access to education. Each year, we send volunteers to teach as part of the summer and after-school programs offered in the camps. CEPAL is entirely volunteer-run: all proceeds from this event will contribute to our overseas program.
Performers include: Ava Homa, Author "Ranging across regions, ethnicities, genders, sexualities and political dispositions, Homa’s characters give us a prismatic portrait of Iran that resists both internal tyrannies and Western demonization. Her style is elegantly spare, gem-solid. This is a voice we all need to hear." Susan Holbrook, author of Joy Is So Exhausting
