Environmental Crimes, an Argentinian perspective - Workshop

March 07, 2011

WORKSHOP: Addressing environmental crimes, an Argentinian perspective with Argentinian Federal Attorney Antonio Gómez

Drawing from years of experience and the specific example of the Bajo de la Alumbrera mine in Catamarca, Argentina, Mr. Antonio Gómez will explore the characteristics of environmental crime and proposals to address them at the international level. Bajo de la Alumbrera is owned by Xstrata in joint venture with Canada's Yamana Gold and Goldcorp.

Workshop will cover:
- policy framework in which environmental crimes are understood in
Latin America
- identifying an environmental crime
- how to register a complaint about an environmental crime
- how to provide proof of an environmental crime
- the need for an International Tribunal to address environmental crimes and current proposals

Since we have limited space for this workshop, please RSVP to Jen Moore, Latin America Program Coordinator at MiningWatch Canada if you plan to attend. Email: jen (at) miningwatch.ca or tel: 613-569-3439.
