Help the G20 Detainees

June 30, 2010

The Coordinating Committee of the Greater Toronto Workers Assembly is requesting volunteers to help in the aftermath of the G20 Summit. Imprisoned activists are being periodically released from the courthouse on 2201 Finch Avenue West. There are two ways you can help over the next few days starting now:

(1)We need people to offer their homes (even if floor-space is the only thing available) for newly released activists who are from out of town and need a place to stay for the night.

(2)We need drivers who are willing to go to the courthouse and drive newly released activists to subway stations (the closest two are Downsview and Finch) and, for those who are from out of town and have no place to stay the night, we need drivers to take them to designated spots. If you volunteer to drive, please try to bring supplies, such as water, food (fruit and granola bars), and TTC tokens (or change).

If you are willing to help with either or both of these endeavours, please contact Paul Gray at 705-760-6540, or, if he cannot be reached, please contact Peter Brogan at 647-764-1871.

If you are offering a place to stay, be aware that we may be arriving with activists as late as 1:30 am. When calling to volunteer, please supply your phone number, address, directions (if your house will be difficult to find), and the number of people you can accommodate.

We know many of you are angry over what has transpired over the last week. This is an immediate opportunity to make a difference.
