Stewart Park Festival

July 16, 2010 to July 18, 2010

Heritage Perth has majestic stone buildings, beautiful parks and superb shopping and entertainment. Downtown Heritage Perth has over seventy fine restaurants and great shops all within five square blocks. Explore the unique gift stores, antique shops and galleries with work by local artisans or take a break and relax on an outdoor patio. Perth is in Eastern Ontario in the middle of beautiful countryside and hundreds of lakes. Perth has a strong agricultural history and is located in Lanark County, the Maple Syrup capital of Ontario.

Perth was established in 1816 as a strategic defensive outpost in the Rideau corridor after the War of mexis.jpg1812. Perth became the social, judicial and administrative capital of the region. Industrial booms punctuate its history, and evidence of this can be seen in architecture - from converted 19th century mills and factories to the Victorian shop fronts of downtown and the grand homes complementing tree-lined boulevards. In 2004, Perth was the proud recipient of the Prince of Wales Award a national heritage award for architecture preservation. In recent times, Perth has shifted from an industrial based economy to one rooted in heritage and cultural tourism.

Perth has retained its small-town friendliness and rural charm despite being located within commuting distance of both Ottawa and Kingston. Perth is famous for its relaxed atmosphere and its motto is "Make Haste Slowly". The enthusiasm of the community shows itself in the active service clubs and the number of high quality annual festivals and year round cultural events.
