Demonstration Outside the First Ministers' Meeting In Ottawa

January 16, 2009

Housing MUST be Part of the Plan to Fight the Crisis!
Tenants and homeless people will demonstrate in Ottawa outside the First Ministers' Meeting which is being held to discuss the financial and economic crisis. The demonstrators want to increase pressure on the Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, to include major investments in social housing, in the plan to deal with the economic crisis, which will be announced on January 27th in the Federal Budget. Investments in housing would both respond to the nation-wide lack of low-rent housing and create employment in the forestry, construction, and manufacturing industries. The demonstrators fear that their problems will be ignored yet again by the Conservative Government.

Time: 11:00 am
Venue: Old City Hall
Location: 111 Sussex Drive Ottawa, ON
Categories: Urban Issues, Transit, Housing, Public Space
