Boots Riley's Sorry to Bother You was one of the most critical acclaimed films of 2018. Though an brilliant mix of satire, drama, and humour, Riley is able to capture the horror, absurdity, and contradictions of life within contemporary capitalism. Exploring themes of exploitation, racism, alienation, and the strained relationship between activism, art, popular culture, and profound social change, Riley effectively captures the tensions, paradoxes, and necessities of the modern political landscape. Following the film there will be a short presentation and discussion on some of the important political questions raised by the film.
