Alternative Facts Survival Guide: Videocracy
June 27, 2017
Alternative Facts Survival Guide: Take heart! Today's best journalists arm you with the intellectual tools needed to decode a world of fake news.
A brutish egomaniac with a bad tan uses his television brand to vault himself into the country’s highest office. Sound familiar? In this darkly hilarious, award-winning examination of Silvio Berlusconi's media empire, director Erik Gandini shows how the autocratic billionaire has transformed Italian culture and politics, replacing democratic debate with empty-headed reality stars, mind-numbing variety shows and, as Gandini puts it, "the evilness of banality."
After the screening, we'll be joined by Craig Silverman, the top media editor at Buzzfeed, who has covered the Italian media industry and is arguably the world's leading reporter on the phenomenon of fake news.
