February 24, 2017
The Toronto launch and indeed, the premiere launch of the exciting new book Psychiatry: Interrogated: An Institutional Ethnography Anthology, ed. Bonnie Burstow. This much anticipated book launch is taking place Friday Feb 24 at 5:30 in the Nexus Lounge (12th Floor) at OISE. The book itself is the world’s very first anthology of institutional ethnography investigations into psychiatry and hopefully, it will pave the way for others. Cosponsors include: Leadership Higher and Adult Education at OISE/UT, Coalition Against Psychiatric Assault, Centre for Women’s Studies in Education, and the Transformative Learning Centre for Community Activism. Scheduled speakers are: Editor and contributor Dr. Bonnie Burstow, Dr. Nina Bascia, and such wonderful researchers and contributors as Dr. Jennifer Poole, Lauren Spring, Mary Jean Hande, Efrat Gold, and Rob Wipond. A Q&A and light refreshments will follow. Books available.
Are you wary of psychiatry? Do you wish to learn more about some of the nooks and crannies of this regime of ruling and how they operate? Are you interested in integrating institutional ethnography into your activism? Do you know of or have you heard of any of these fascinating speakers? If you answer any of these questions in the affirmative, by all means join us.
