The New Zealand waterfront strike, the largest and most widespread industrial dispute in New Zealand history. The strike is met with massive repression by the employers and the state, and ends in defeat.

Quebec students begin massive demonstrations against tuition fee increases. The demonstrations continue through the winter, spring, and summer, and end with the defeat of the Liberal government and the withdrawal of the fee hikes.
