Publisher: Voice of Women, Vancouver, CanadaYear Published: 1976 Resource Type: Article Cx Number: CX95 Leaflet that asks and answers some basic questions about nuclear energy. Abstract: This leaflet asks some very basic questions about nuclear energy and answers given from quotes, statements and research from authorities in the field are revealing. It asks whether nuclear power is cheap, safe and necessary. It looks at thermal pollution, radioactive wastes and biological risk. Three Ontario Hydro engineers who assessed the CANDU system for Hydro remark that "Canada's approach to nuclear power has been less orderly and has taken larger risks than the U.S. program". It points out that the decision to develop a nuclear industry and the level of social risk has not been debated in the public arena. Readers are advised to inform themselves, to write to the Prime Minister and Energy Minister objecting to their decision to nuclear development. The leaflet concludes by advocating a commitment to solar power. Subject Headings |
