Abstract:
A companion book to the Long Loneliness, Loaves and Fishes is the history of the Catholic Worker's Movement started during the Great Depression. This is Day's account of her thirty years as leader of the movement and editor of its paper. In her book she tries to explain the underlying theological and spiritual principles of the League-its opposition to a power structure that disenfranchises the weakest in society She felt that you were either on the side of the poor of an exploiter. She uses the metaphor of the loaves and fishes to say that each of our small kind actions will be multiplied by God as Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes. With both humour and candor she brings to life the memorable personalities that she met and worked with over the years.
