Abstract: This project was recently approved by the Educational Resource Cooperative in Montreal and the Canadian University Service Overseas (CUSO). The overall program for this year includes work with teachers and community groups on two major themes - racism and consumerism (as it relates to food and cosmetics). They have also developed a task force on discrimination in text books. The group has taken a particular interest in the work on consumerism with a uniquely CUSO dimension. The general goals of the group are: 1) to encourage CUSO teachers to deal with development issues in their work, 2) to encourage an interchange between groups working for change in Canada and people overseas. For example, the group has requested that the draft teaching unit on consumerism be used by groups of CUSO teachers in four overseas programs. This teaching unit can be adapted for use in their work overseas or to add a particularly third-world dimension to its use in Canada, 3) to provide a model for development education overseas which relates to volunteers in their day to day work. This organization no longer exists. This abstract was published in the Connexions Digest in 1977. |
