Abstract:
This manual is a guide to organizing ecology workshops. The workshops are geared towards adults and are meant to be informative, instructive and practical. They aim to allow participants to come up with things they can do in their daily lives to help the environment. The topics of such workshops include energy, hazardous products, waste, and water.
There are three parts in the guide. Part 1 covers all that is required for planning an event and lets the organizer know what methods are important to a presentation of this kind. The organizer's role is explained and sample workshops are provided. Helpful tips and sample letters are also included. Part 2 explains the topics to the organizer to prevent misinformation. Each topic has a brief explanation, a quiz, and recommended exercises. There are also sample discussion questions. Part 3 is a collection of example ideas for community and workplace projects. In the Appendix, the reader can find tools for introducing participants to each other as well as additional resources.
The manual is designed to teach an interested individual how to make a difference in his or her community. Participants will learn how they can make an effort to preserve the environment in their daily lives. They will develop the practical skills needed for active involvement in ecological solutions.
