Great Lakes Water Quality
Year Published: 1990Resource Type: Article Cx Number: CX3886 Abstract: The International Joint Commission on the Great Lakes has released its fifth biennial Report on Great Lakes Water Quality. The report concludes that human health is threatened by the presence of even low ambient levels of persistent toxic substances in the Great Lakes, and urges that immediate action be taken. The Commission found that sixteen Great Lakes wildlife species near the top of the food web have suffered reproductive problems or declines in populations, and states that the consumption of certain Great Lakes fish poses a threat to women of child-bearing age.
