Abstract:
The CANADA-LATIN AMERICAN RESOURCE CENTRE (CLARC) is a comprehensive colleciton of books and resources on all countries of Latin America. The Centre, which is located in downtown Toronto, is open five days and one evening a week by appointment with the CLARC librarian. There is a small user's fee. Out of town requests for informaiton are handled by mail, and there is a charge for the librarian's time and resources. Institutions and media can pay a yearly fee for special services.
Included in CLARC are over 9,000 files on topics and issues related to each Latin American country; extensive files on corporations, especially Canadian corporations, which have relations with Latin America; subject files (aid, banking, the church, native peoples, human rights, Canadian and U.S. foreign policy, militarism, etc.); a small collection of labour files, periodicals in Spanish, English, Portuguese, and French from or or every Latin American country; various publications from the Canadian government and business press; annual reports from the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the Inter-American Development Bank; as well as a specialized book colleciton, Graphics, files, a slide collection, and other educational materials are also included in the collection.
The Latin American Working Group also operates a small bookstore with over 500 titles (books and peridocials) on Latin America.
