Abstract:
Formed in 1980, WOMYNLY WAY PRODUCTIONS is a non-profit organization producting professional concerts, dance, comedy and theatrical performances featuring primarily women artists. Making cultural events accessible to differently-abled people, including the hearing-impaired, and those who use wheel chairs, is stressed whenever possible. They also provide free childcare at all events.
Other commitments include:
- supporting Canadian talent;
- producing multi-racial cross-cultural events that address racism, sexism and economic oppression;
- helping artists create press kits and other promotional material;
- providing opportunities for women to work in every stage of production, from graphic art and public relations to technical work and stage management.
Womynly Way Production has a volunteer pool of 75 women assisting in postering, mailings, sound, lighting, hospitality for the artists and outreach work to the community.
Holly Near, Kate Clinton, Ronnie Gilbert and the Pillow Sisters are among the artists Womynly Way has producted in Toronto.
