Workers Industry
Year Published: 1983Resource Type: Article Cx Number: CX2815 Abstract: This article relates the learning of a group of Canadians who toured worker co-operatives in England, France, and Spain recently. Worker co-operatives are"business which are owned by the workers. Each worker is a member and has one vote. The workers ....control the management of the company." The article contrasts some of the more successful European worker co-operatives with Canadian co-operatives, which "in part because of their primarily consumer-producer orientation, do not provide in the same way for industrial expansion, growth and development as does the private sector." As yet there is no major impetus in Canada to create co-operatives. |
