NEWS & LETTERS, February - March 2007Fifth anniversary of Guantanamo interneesChicago--Activists across the country marked the fifth anniversary of the opening of the U.S. prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba with demonstrations. In Chicago 100 held a large protest outside the Dirksen Federal Building. The Bush administration is holding 400 detainees in the prison without charges and without any foreseeable end to their internment. In June of 2006, three Guantanamo prisoners carried out simultaneous suicides to protest the dire conditions in the camp. |
