NEWS & LETTERS, February-March 2006Youth prison protest[caption] Oakland, Calif.--Hundreds of young people and activists came out on Nov. 16 to demand that the notorious California Youth Authority prisons be closed, starting with the Chad facility. Chad was the scene of recent violence and several deaths. This was one in a string of events to try to bring public attention to the problems with the abusive and failed prison system. |
