NEWS & LETTERS, OCTOBER 2003ANNOUNCEMENT TO OUR READERSWe wish to alert readers of NEWS & LETTERS that a group which expressed affinity with some of our ideas, the Ukrainian Workers’ Group (UWG) in Kiev, has turned out to be a sham outfit that simultaneously falsely claimed (under several different names) to be an associate of a number of other radical organizations in the U.S. and Britain. We have severed all connections to them and call on all other organizations to do the same. In light of false innuendos and statements that have circulated on the internet regarding our relation with the UWG, we wish to make it clear that at no time did News and Letters Committees either fund this organization or consider it an affiliate of our organization. As opponents of the concept of a “vanguard party to lead,” we do not try to set up “clones” of our organization. Although we printed several articles from the UWG without knowing of their duplicitous nature, we never considered them a sister organization of News and Letters Committees. Whatever may be the motivations behind the Kiev group’s bizarre actions, we wish to warn all radical organizations against associating with them in any way. We also call upon the Committee for a Workers International (CWI), which had extensive relations with the group in Kiev over many years, to make a clear and public statement regarding their relations with individuals associated with the group, and to reveal whatever knowledge they have had regarding their dishonest and criminal actions.
