in Afghanistan The outpouring of joy across Afghanistan at the disappearance of the Taliban
wasn't a celebration of the destructive U.S. bombing or the retrogressive
politics of the Northern Alliance. It was an expression of humanism that exposed
the lies surrounding the oppressive aims of Bush as well as bin Laden
Bush's war on freedom in the USA The massive assault leveled since September 11 by George Bush and his
attorney general, John Ashcroft, on a wide number of civil liberties has reached
such a chilling level that some legal scholars are calling it nothing less than
a "constitutional coup d'etat."
'On political divides and
philosophic new beginnings' In "On political divides and philosophic new beginnings,"
Dunayevskaya developed her new perceptions on Lenin's philosophic ambivalence in
terms of its impact on the dialectics of organization. It was the last writing
from her pen before her death in 1987.
Afghan women speak for themselves "It is very unfortunate that it was only after the events of September
11 that Afghanistan suddenly became the center of the world's attention,"
declared Tahmeena Faryal of the Revolutionary Association of the Women of
Afghanistan. Her speach, in New York on Oct. 30, was sponsored by News and
Letters Committees.
Whatever happened to the
anti-war movement? As the U.S. war in Afghanistan enters its third month, discussion and
activity around the war and Islamic fundamentalism continues in the Chicago
area. At the same time, there has been a marked decline in the size and number
of anti-war demonstrations. The reasons for this are worth considering.
