December 2005News & Letters in New Teaching Resource About the Middle East The "Media Construction of the Middle East" is a project for teachers to "actively engage students in developing deep and critical understanding of the Arab-Israeli conflict, the U.S. War in Iraq, and the rise of militant Islamic movements." Among the recommended teaching resources selected by the creator, Project Look Sharp, is the November 2001 News & Letters lead article by Kevin Anderson, "War, Islamic Fundamentalism Grip Middle East, South Asia." The projects describes the piece as "a 2001 article that deals with the role of fundamentalism in the Middle East as well as its development in various other Muslim nations. The author is critical of the fundamentalism movement and refers to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks as 'the new stage reached by Islamic fundamentalist terrorism'."
