Notes

[1] A reference to the supply of equipment to a special party which was to determine the site for an astronomical observatory in the Northern Caucasus. Academician V. G. Fesenkov recalls that on October 4 he informed Lenin by phone that he bad been unable to secure equipment for the party over a period of three months. The next day, October 5, the matter was settled. The party was fully equipped within a few days and left for the Northern Caucasus.
