Comrade Gorbunov:

Perhaps I should appoint a commission:

1) Pokrovsky

2) Khalatov

3) Novitsky, to report to the Narrow C.P.C. on Monday night and the Full C.P.C. on Tuesday?[1]

Phone them up and let me know.[2]

Notes

[1] That is November 7 and 8.—Ed.

[2] Written in connection with the forthcoming C.P.C. discussion, on November 10, 1921, of a report by A. B. Khalatov, member of the Collegium of the People’s Commissariat for Food, on improving the living conditions of scientists. The C.P.C., taking Khalatov’s report into consideration and approving it as preliminary, set up a standing commission for an all-round inquiry into and improvement of scientists’ living conditions.
