Fight Back Against Social Cleansing!

April 15, 2015

The 124 bed Hope Shelter at College and McCaul has been closed. The City plans to relocate Seaton House and the Schoolhouse shelter on George Street. Over 770 homeless beds are to be relocated and most would never be replaced when the redevelopment is over. A recent City report says that six homeless shelters will have to relocate in the next few years and makes clear that the intention is to move to 'underserved' areas away from the centre of the City.

It's very clear that, as condos go up, the developers want the homeless gone and the shelters they now use pulled down to make way for upscale housing. It's not just the homeless that they seek to remove. Low income tenants are also facing the threat of removal.

OCAP is determined to stop this process of social cleansing.
