Re: Pipeline projects need a rigorous review process, Opinion Dec. 5, 2014 Thomas Walkom answers the question “should all heavy-oil projects be nixed for the sake of the planet?” with “maybe.” The answer is obviously “yes.” Present emissions are already too much and carbon released from extreme extraction such as the tarsands, experts say, will tip the planet over to become uninhabitable. The health impacts from such extraction is also unacceptable, suffered by indigenous people and workers, and the local environmental costs are huge.
