Abstract: 
This summary provides background information about the impact of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms on women's rights in Canada. It evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of the constituional changes, and the efforts required to ensure that the charter provisions are implemented. These efforts include litigation, publix education, lobbying goverments to prepare or update inventories of laws and practices which have been found to be descriminatory.

CACSW will continue to act both at the goverment level and as a resource to women's groups across Canada on this issue. Among the tasks being undertaken asre studying the issues involved in establishing a legal defense fund, the preparation of a lobbying kit, the dissemination of timely information on task forces, and the presentation of briefs.
